Six Year 9 students at Waverley College, an all-boys high school in Sydney’s eastern suburbs, have been expelled following an “assault” on Year 7 students.
According to a statement from Waverley College, the incident occurred after a group of Year 9 students were “provoked” by some younger students who threw “some fruit and water at them during lunch time”.
“The Year 9s responded completely disproportionately… and it got out of hand,” Principal Graham Leddie said.
Leddie said many of the students attacked were “innocent victims” and had “nothing to do with provoking the Year 9s”.
The incident occurred in October.

The outcome
Waverley College suspended the students thought to be involved in the response while they investigated the issue.
They also informed the police about the matter.
Following the investigation, students who “actively participated in bullying behaviour” were expelled from the school.
