Today is the five-year anniversary of same-sex marriage being legalised in Australia.
It came after the marriage equality postal vote results, which saw 61.6% of the country vote to allow same-sex couples to marry.
The Bill passed Parliament on 7 December 2017 and came into effect on 9 December.

‘Marriage means the union of 2 people to the exclusion of all others, voluntarily entered into for life.’
In 2021, 23,914 same-sex marriages were counted in the Census – the first Census since same-sex marriage was legalised in Australia.
