Qantas will launch the first ever non-stop commercial flights between Sydney and New York from mid-2028, cutting more than three hours from the current travel time between the two cities.
The flight will take around 18 hours, and will go on sale from August 2027.

Qantas announced its Sydney-New York route on Tuesday (local time), making it the second destination under its Project Sunrise program after Sydney-London.

The airline said the non-stop flight will take around 18 hours, cutting about three hours from the current fastest travel time between Sydney and New York.
Qantas currently operates a daily service between Sydney and New York via Auckland.
How it works
The Project Sunrise aircraft have been specially modified for ultra-long-haul flights, including an additional 20,000-litre fuel tank to allow them to fly the distance without stopping.
The aircraft will also feature a dedicated ‘Wellbeing Zone’, where passengers can stretch and move around, as well as specialised lighting and meals.
