Hayfever hell: Here’s why your allergies are out of control

Hayfever and asthma sufferers in Victoria have been warned of higher levels of grass pollen this week.

Grass pollen had been relatively low throughout October due to wet and cool weather. However, the return of warmer temperatures this week is set to bring pollen into Victorian cities from surrounding farmlands.

There are also higher levels of pollen in the air in Sydney.

Last week, Melbourne Pollen Count – a daily pollen forecaster operating at the University of Melbourne – said they expected about 20 high or extreme grass pollen days for Melbourne in the last two months of the year.

Associate Professor at Melbourne Pollen Count, Ed Newbigin, said that “most parts” of Victoria will experience extreme levels of pollen tomorrow.
