Sri Lankan cricketer Danushka Gunathilaka has been charged with alleged sexual assault in Sydney.

Sri Lankan cricketer Danushka Gunathilaka has been charged with alleged sexual assault in Sydney.

Gunathilaka has been in Australia for the T20 cricket men’s World Cup. He was arrested yesterday, shortly before he was due to fly home. He has been denied bail.

The alleged incident occurred in Rose Bay last week.

In a statement yesterday, Sri Lanka Cricket confirmed it was aware of the arrest.

“[We] will closely monitor proceedings in court and, in consultation with the ICC, will… take stern action against the player if found guilty.”

Gunathilaka was previously suspended in 2018 after a woman alleged his friend raped her in a hotel room while he was present.
