What we know about the deadly bus shooting in Jerusalem

Six people have been killed and several others are wounded after a shooting attack at a Jerusalem bus stop.

The gunmen were reportedly shot dead by Israeli security forces at the scene. A third suspect was later arrested.

Hamas praised the attack, but has not claimed responsibility for it.

Palestinian authorities have alleged Israeli soldiers shot and killed two teenagers at a West Bank refugee camp in the aftermath of the Jerusalem shooting.

The Israeli military has launched a review into both incidents.

Shooting

According to Israeli police, “two terrorists” arrived at a bus stop on Jerusalem’s northern outskirts on Monday morning (local time).

The gunmen opened fire, killing six people and injuring 12 others.

Four people died at the scene and two others died in hospital, Israel’s ambulance service confirmed.

Several others are receiving ongoing treatment for serious injuries.

The shooting took place at Ramot Junction, a major intersection in an area that the International Court of Justice has ruled is illegally occupied by Israel.

The gunmen, believed to be from Palestinian villages in the Occupied West Bank, were killed at the scene.

Hours later, a man was arrested in East Jerusalem in relation to the attack.

Response

Hamas called the attack a “natural response to the occupation’s crimes against our people.”

However, no group has formally claimed responsibility for the shooting.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu offered his condolences to the victims’ families and vowed to “apprehend whoever aided and dispatched” the attackers.

Israel is “in an intense war against terrorism,” he said.

The Palestinian Authority governs parts of the West Bank.

Its President, Mahmoud Abbas, has condemned “any targeting of Palestinian and Israeli civilians” and“denounced all forms of violence and terrorism, regardless of their source”.

The Palestinian Authority’s official news agency said Israeli forces killed a 14-year-old boy at the Jenin refugee camp in the West Bank.

The Israeli military is investigating reports that its soldiers killed another 14-year-old overnight.
