Archive of Our Own (known as AO3), one of the world’s most popular fanfiction sites, is expected to be down for up to a month.
It comes after the Organisation for Transformative Works (OTW), which runs AO3, initially announced the site would be offline for 12 hours for maintenance yesterday (AEDT).
In a follow-up post, OTW said the outage was now expected to last at least two weeks, possibly up to four weeks.
It did not provide a reason for the lengthy outage.
Wait, what’s AO3?
Your contribution ensures The Daily Aus can continue doing the work you love.
I want to give $10 monthly to help TDA keep doing the news.
Your details:
Every day, thousands of people use AO3 to publish stories based on books, movies, video games, TV shows, and real famous people.
People can also post their own original fiction to the site.
Other users can read these stories and leave comments or give them ‘kudos’ (similar to likes).
In February 2020, the Chinese Government banned AO3, possibly in response to a story about a popular Chinese actor that depicted him in a queer relationship.
