Cheek Media co-founder Hannah Ferguson has announced she will run against Prime Minister Anthony Albanese in the seat of Grayndler at the next federal election.
The 28-year-old had previously announced plans to run for the Senate.
Ferguson spoke to TDA about why she switched to running for the Lower House, what she's campaigning for, and how she's responding to criticism around her step into politics.
Grayndler
Grayndler is a federal electorate in the inner west suburbs of Sydney.
Labor has held the seat since its formation in 1949.
Albanese has been the local MP since 1996.
He's been re-elected nine times.
At the 2025 election, Albanese won 53.54% of first preference votes.
Greens candidate Hannah Thomas came second with 25.11%.
Ferguson was born in Grayndler in 1998 and currently lives there.

Ferguson has built a public profile as a progressive political commentator through her social media accounts and as a co-host on the podcast Big Small Talk.
In 2020, she co-founded Cheek Media, a left-leaning media platform, alongside two others.

However, she has run it by herself since 2022.
Ferguson told TDA that she intends to step away from the media business closer to the election.
Campaign
While addressing the National Press Club last year, Ferguson announced she would run for a NSW Senate seat in the next federal election.
However, Ferguson told TDA she now believes winning a lower house seat is more attainable.
Policies
So far, Ferguson's stated priorities are around gas export taxes, gambling reform, and a tougher stance on AUKUS and Gaza.
Of the Labor Government, she says “Australia is complicit in these actions, and it's so important that we be calling this out.”
She told TDA a full policy platform won't be locked in until closer to the election.
Response
TDA reached out to the Prime Minister's office about Ferguson's campaign but did not receive a response at the time of publication.
The next federal election is due by May 2028.
No other candidates have been formally announced for Grayndler at this point in time.
